Geoscience EditorBiography
I am senior geoscience editor in the Publications Services Section of the Ontario Geological Survey (OGS), Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, Ontario, Canada, where I am one of three editors editing reports, maps and data products produced by OGS geologists.
I was born and raised in Toronto, and obtained an Honours Bachelors of Science (HBSc) degree in geological sciences from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, and a Masters of Science (MSc) in sedimentology from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario. I worked in the petrography laboratory of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and also as a research assistant in glacial sedimentology at the University of Toronto and McMaster University, before joining the Ontario Geological Survey in 1990 as a Paleozoic geologist and editor. Four years later, I joined the staff of Publication Services as a geoscience editor and have found it rewarding to work in a dynamic and dedicated team environment with other editors as well as cartographers, digital typesetters, and digital publication specialists.
I have been a member of the Association of Earth Science Editors (AESE) since 1996, taking more active roles and responsibilities since 2006. I have served on the program, membership, and awards committees, as well as on the newsletter, Blueline, staff. Additionally, I served two three-year terms as AESE secretary, and just completed a three-year commitment as vice president, president and past president. I manage the Twitter (@AESErocks), LinkedIn and Instagram accounts for AESE and co-administrate Facebook pages for AESE and occasionally EASE.
When I’m not working, I pursue my passion to travel, preferably to places foreign and exotic, where I can indulge in my other passion, travel photography. I also enjoy fine wine, arts, independent films, and discovering the delights of world music.
