Writing Patient Education MaterialsTom Lang Communications and Training International
In this workshop, participants learn how to design, write, and evaluate patient education handouts. The various uses of these handouts, as well as some relevant theories of persuasion and behavior change, are described. The qualities of effective handouts are identified, and a series of tasks for producing handouts efficiently is detailed. (This workshop has some overlap with Improving Comprehension: Theories and Research Findings.)
This workshop is based on Lang T. Preparing Patient Education Handouts. In: Selected Workshops in Biomedical Communication and on Lang T. Worth Remembering: Take-Home Points from the Targeted and Tailored Messages for Dealing with Depression (the T2/D2) Conference. An optional pre-workshop assignment adds 1.5 hours to the workshop.
