2020/2021 Award winners

The 2020/2021 awards were presented at on event in December 2022. View the recording of the event.

Each award winner received a gift of 10 trees planted in the EASE Virtual Forest in a location of their choice from amongst those available from our planting partners, Plant for the Planet.

Community Contributor 2021

 

Tom Lang

Tom Lang Communications and Training International, USA

The Community Contributor Award for 2021 was awarded to Tom Lang, who has served as an Associate Editor and peer reviewer for the Journal European Science Editing, been a member of the EASE Training Committee, regularly contributed to the EASE Forum and attended a number of events throughout the year.

Rising Star 2021

 

Iryna Izarova

Editor in Chief Access to Justice in Eastern Europe, Ukraine

The Rising Star in 2021 award was presented to Iryna Izarova. During the year Iryna established the Ukrainian Regional Chapter and became its first Chair. She and her team created a programme of activities, including several webinars. Iryna quickly became an active member of EASE, attended multiple EASE events throughout the year and was engaged in many EASE activities.

Pau Award

 

Joan Marsh

Editor-in-Chief of Lancet Psychiatry, UK

The Pau Award was presented to Joan Marsh for the outstanding service she has given to EASE during her 35 years as a member.

  • Two terms as President 2009-15, one as Vice President, 2006-09 and one as Past President, 2015-18
  • For her work with the Gender Policy Committee, most recently as Chair, helping to develop the SAGER Guidelines and its new Checklist, including advocating for their endorsement and adoption
  • For attending 20 EASE Conferences since 1987, including being on the Programme Committee of several, most recently as Chair of the 16th EASE Conference Committee
  • For being a regular speaker at EASE events, conferences and presenting EASE and its initiatives at numerous meetings worldwide
  • For her tireless work, delivering training and courses both in-person and virtually
  • For her work in supporting the development of various EASE Guidelines, statements and toolkits
  • For her work as associate editor and advocate of the ESE Journal
  • For her regular contributions to the newsletters and Digest
  • For her leadership of the Lancet group membership, organisation, recruitment and engaging the group in EASE tasks
  • For her mentoring role to numerous EASE members, including support for six individual sponsored members
  • and her all-round dedication to EASE.
