Update, February 2026

Strengthened leadership team and new survey

We are pleased that our call for volunteers was very successful and we have recruited seven new members to join our leadership team. At our first meeting, we created a survey specifically to find out what is happening with the manuscript editors of EASE. We are analysing the data now and Community members will receive an email about it when they are available.

Grow our community

Our Group’s role is to advocate for those in this discipline and ensure that EASE provides a programme of activities – webinars, workshops, courses, etc. – specifically for manuscript editors, using the resources in the Learning Hub and elsewhere. Sign up here if you haven’t already.

Learning Hub – our next task is to work on the manuscript editors’ section of the EASE Learning Hub. We already have lots of resources available, so we will be looking for volunteers to help us review our existing resources, ensure they are up-to-date and relevant, identify any gaps and help source new materials to fill them. These will all be included in a comprehensive and easy-to-navigate toolkit published in our Learning Hub.

Summer Symposium 2026 – we are busy planning our first event, a session specifically aimed at manuscript editors as a satellite event of the EASE annual meeting, the Summer Symposium. The event will be held on Monday, 1 June at 2pm UK time online, with the title Beyond Track Changes: Measuring the Impact of Human Manuscript Editing in an AI-Driven Publishing Landscape. We will let you know when registration opens. This will be a free event, so feel free to share in your networks.

We look forward to sharing more of our news in the coming weeks.

Best wishes, Ashley

Update, December 2025

May we introduce ourselves as the leadership of the recently established Manuscript Editors and Author Services Providers Role Group:

  • Ashley Cooper, Senior Deputy Managing Editor, The Lancet, UK
  • Yateendra Joshi, freelance copy editor and trainer, India
  • Roohi Ghosh, Ambassador, Researcher Success at Cactus Communication, India/Indonesia

Here’s a brief outline of our plans and activities so far…

Build our community – we have created a dedicated community of manuscript editors within EASE and have nearly 100 members signed up already. Our Group’s role is to advocate for those in this discipline and ensure that EASE provides a programme of activities – webinars, workshops, courses, etc. – specifically for manuscript editors, using the resources in the Learning Hub and elsewhere. Sign up here if you haven’t already.

Strengthen the leadership team – as we set forth on this venture, we are looking for some volunteers to strengthen our fledgling leadership team. If you have a passion for manuscript editing, are actively working in the field, and have a couple of hours a month to spare, we’d love to hear from you! Please email the EASE secretary.

Learning Hub – our plan is to bring together a wide range of learning materials, courses, and resources to support you in your day-to-day work and help you with your continued professional development as you progress through your career. We will identify all the key tasks in the work of a manuscript editor: those working with authors to help them improve their manuscripts, either before submission or after acceptance. We then plan to map all our resources to each of the key tasks of a manuscript editor into a comprehensive and easy-to-navigate toolkit published in our Learning Hub.

Summer Symposium 2026 – we are busy planning our first event, a session specifically aimed at manuscript editors during the EASE annual meeting, the Summer Symposium, 2-4 June 2026 online. The theme is Influence and Impact: innovations in how editorial teams set standards, demonstrate quality, and measure the reception of published research. If you have ideas for this session or for potential speakers, please email the EASE secretary.

EASE Get-togethers – our new series of Get-togethers will be hosted by different Council members or Community leaders each month. Keep an eye on the calendar as we would like to organise one of these sessions to focus on manuscript editors. These sessions include an update on our current activities and recent achievements and an opportunity to ‘Ask Me Anything’ to a panel of experienced professionals.

What other activities would you be interested in? We’d welcome your views and suggestions. Get in touch by emailing the EASE secretary.

Many thanks,

Ashley, Yateen, and Roohi
