Background and Objectives

As the current phase of the work of the Commission on Publication Ethics of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the development of the National Scholarly Journals’ List draw to a close, there is a need to consolidate the efforts of all stakeholders. The successful implementation of reforms in scholarly communication, the advancement of Open Science principles, and the improvement of the quality of Ukrainian scholarly journals require coordinated action at both the national and international levels.

Against this background, the aim of the event is to discuss ongoing reforms in the field of scholarly journals and to explore mechanisms for safeguarding the Ukrainian research ecosystem against predatory publishing practices.

Objectives:

  1. To review the outcomes of the Commission’s work and define a strategy for the further development and revision of the National Scholarly Journals’ List.
  2. To align national practices with international standards and criteria for research assessment.
  3. To develop joint mechanisms for identifying and preventing predatory publishing practices.

Expected Outcome: To establish a shared rationale for launching a systematic national programme of training and professional development for scholarly journal editors, to support the development of the professional standard “Scholarly Editor”, and to further strengthen and refine the requirements governing the National Scholarly Journals’ List.
