There is much debate surrounding the integration of AI in peer review with some for it and some against. However, the future does not hinge on a simple yes or no but rather on a nuanced approach—a new hybrid model of peer review, perhaps? In this session, we examined this shift and envisioned a collaborative environment where human expertise and AI complement each other to enhance the peer review process. Addressing ethical implications and guidelines for AI deployment, the panel explored training and resources necessary for reviewers to effectively use these AI tools.

Marie McVeigh, lead, peer review operations and publishing integrity at Mary Ann Liebert Inc Publishers
Dr Haseeb Irfanullah, active as a consultant and a volunteer in environment, climate change, and research system, and member of the EASE Environment and Sustainability Committee and Scholarly Kitchen Chef.
