Esma Şenel is a dedicated educator and researcher currently pursuing her Ph.D. in English Language Education at Çanakkale On Sekiz Mart University, Turkey. With a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature from Namık Kemal University and a Bachelor’s in English Language Teaching from Anadolu University (both completed with honors), Esma brings a robust academic foundation to her field. She holds TESOL Advanced Practitioner status and has consistently contributed to the development of English language teaching through research, training, and publishing.
Since 2022, Esma has served as a lecturer at İzmir Democracy University’s School of Foreign Languages. In addition to her teaching duties, she is a valued member of the university’s Quality Assurance Coordination Unit, where she contributes to maintaining and enhancing the institution’s academic standards. Esma is also highly involved in teacher training and professional development, specifically focused on supporting educators in research skills and creative pedagogies. Her role as a trainer for the U.S. Embassy’s English for Media Literacy Across Türkiye Program has further solidified her commitment to enhancing media literacy and educational outreach across diverse learning communities.
Esma’s research interests include academic writing, creativity in language teaching and learning, educational technologies, language and test anxiety, teacher training, and intercultural competence. She has published multiple articles in international journals and has presented her research at various academic conferences, furthering scholarly dialogue in these areas. Her recent research explores the intersection of digitalization, international student mobility, and social and cultural integration, particularly within the context of emerging educational hubs like Türkiye.
In addition to her academic roles, Esma is actively engaged in the European Network on International Student Mobility (COST Action CA20115), where she focuses on enhancing the social and cultural integration of international students. She and her colleagues organize forums and panels to promote discussions on the future of international student mobility, emphasizing alumni experiences and practical recommendations for stakeholders.
Esma’s commitment to scholarly excellence is also evident in her roles as a peer reviewer for multiple academic journals, including the Journal of Language and Education and Language Teaching Research. She is currently developing an online peer review training course aimed at enhancing the research capabilities of graduate students and early-career educators in the field of language education.
As an EASE sponsored member, Esma is excited to further engage with the community, contribute to EASE initiatives, and support the advancement of editorial and publishing standards globally.
