James Butcher is Practice Lead, Europe, for Clarke & Esposito; he advises clients on editorial and publishing strategy and provides insight into how European funder mandates and other regulations are affecting their organisations. He also writes a weekly newsletter for journal editors called Journalology, which covers developments in scholarly publishing.

James has worked in STM publishing for over 20 years, first as an Executive Editor at The Lancet and then as Vice President of the Nature journals, where he led a team of ~500 editors, journalists and publishers.
