EASE statement of endorsement of ORCID

The European Association of Science Editors (EASE) has issued a statement in support of initiatives that increase the transparency and disambiguation of authorship so that authors can receive appropriate credit for their work.

We fully support and endorse the activities of ORCID (Open Researcher & Contributor ID: https://orcid.org) to provide a mechanism for identifying and associating authors with their research publications and related activities.

We strongly encourage our members to register and use ORCIDs for their works and to encourage authors and reviewers with whom they work to do likewise. We encourage the application and publication of ORCIDs for all authors (not just the corresponding author) to ensure that complete ORCID profiles are built by everyone.

We strongly encourage publishers to implement systems that facilitate the recognition of ORCID for all authors and reviewers, so that each can receive suitable recognition of their input. Several publishers have signed an open letter to confirm that they require authors to sign up and register their ORCIDs with their submissions: read the open letter here: https://orcid.org/content/requiring-orcid-publication-workflows-open-letter.
