Prof. Eva Baranyiova presents writing workshop at top Agriculture University in Nigeria

Long standing EASE member, Prof. Eva Baranyiova, Editor-in-Chief, Agricultura Tropica et Subtropica at Mendel University in the Czech Republic, recently travelled to Africa to deliver a workshop entitled ‘Writing scientific papers and ethical aspects of publishing’ for delegates at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNABB). FUNABB is a public research university in Abeijyta, Ogun State, Nigeria. In the rankings of universities of agriculture, FUNABB is ranked first in Africa and seventh globally.

Prof. Baranyiova was delighted to have been invited to such a prestigious University like FUNAAB to share her experience. Emphasising the need for publishing research papers, Prof. Baranyiova noted that science was not an individual experience, rather it was supposed to be a shared knowledge, and hence, science without communication was a waste. She highlighted factors to consider in order to write a good science paper as:

  • thinking what no one has thought of
  • giving an answer that matters
  • adequate communication
  • logical thinking
  • adopting an appropriate writing style, and
  • keeping a reliable archive.

The highpoint of Prof. Baranyiova’s visit to Ogun State was a guided tour of Olumo Rock, Adire Market, Autonomous Republic of Ijegba (ARI) Forestage, among other places of interest in Abeokuta.

Present at the Workshop was the Editor, FUNAAB Journal and the Programme Host, Prof. Eyitayo Makinde; the Director, Community-Based Farming Scheme (COBFAS), Prof. Sunday Adigbo, among other top University officials.
