Shirin Heidari recognised for her work on gender equity in health research

Our congratulations to Shirin Heidari on the recognition of her work on gender equity, in a recent Lancet Perspectives Profile article, Shirin Heidari: towards gender equity in health research.

Shirin is the Executive Director of GENDRO, Senior Researcher at the Gender Centre, Geneva Graduate Institute in Switzerland, and a long-time contributor and active member of EASE, as mentioned in the Lancet article:

“As an elected council member of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), in 2012, Heidari established and co-chaired a Gender Policy Committee, hoping to  shift the approach taken in research design, implementation, and communication towards a better integration of sex and gender dimensions. That led to the development of the Sex and Gender Equity in Research (SAGER) guidelines”

The SAGER guidelines and continuing work of the Gender Policy Committee – now incorporated into our Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Committee – are one of EASE’s flagship resources, and we are immensely proud of the work the GPC team and Shirin has done in leading the increasingly wide adoption and application of the guidelines.

The SAGER Guidelines will continue to be promoted by EASE and GENDRO, and we will work closely with Shirin as she continues to promote and expand this work through her role at GENDRO.

Congratulations to Shirin on this well-deserved honour.
