The Journal of General Internal Medicine (JGIM) launched its inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Advocacy Team to strengthen equitable representation in medical publishing amid growing societal challenges. This paper describes the DEI team’s composition and aim. This team—comprising four DEI experts—introduced the “5TDEI” framework (team, tools, tracking, transparency, training) to build infrastructure, monitor progress, and foster accountability. Their aim is to diversify editorial and author roles, offer DEI-centric guidance and training, and annually report metrics to promote transparency and inclusive publishing practices. This article highlights opportunities to enhance DEI and health equity in scientific writing and publishing.
