POIESIS project

POIESIS

The POIESIS project, was a 3-year HORIZON research program funded by the EU. It strived to understand how and to what extent, societal trust in science is affected by the alignment of research with the principles of research integrity and by the integration of citizens and societal stakeholders in the research cycle. Moreover, POIESIS examined how institutions, that perform or fund research, can foster research practices that enhance public trust in science.

During the project’s development, the POIESIS research team conducted 7 deliberative workshops in every consortium country with 160 people in total, 3 Focus Groups in each country with more than 130 researchers and science mediators, 3 Expert Workshops, a large survey experiment with more than 2800 respondents, 7 roundtable workshops with more than 80 institutional stakeholders, and interviewed more than 130 researchers and science mediators. These activities culminated in the POIESIS Scenario Workshop and a Final Event in collaboration with our sister projects VERITY and IANUS in Brussels, featuring research policymakers at European and national level.

These efforts ultimately led to the development of 9 Key Recommendations, that have already been published along with a set of action points addressed to various important stakeholder groups including Researchers, Science Mediators, Research Performing Organisations, Research Funding Organisations, national Policymakers and the European Commission.
