EASE India webinar: Academic manuscript editing: Key skills and trends

Hema is a BELS-certified academic editor with over eight years of experience in scholarly publishing. A graduate in Banking and Finance from the University of London and an Alumni Ambassador, Hema has a deep understanding of academic writing and publishing standards. Currently serving as Manager, Skill Development at Cactus Communications, she has trained and mentored editors, helping them refine their technical and language skills to meet global publishing requirements.

Before transitioning into training, Hema worked extensively in academic editing and client service, addressing author feedback, ensuring editorial quality, and optimizing documents for journal acceptance. This experience has provided invaluable insights into what makes a manuscript stand out. Additionally, she has conducted numerous workshops and training sessions in both English and Spanish for universities in India and abroad, equipping researchers with best practices in manuscript preparation and scholarly communication.

Anita Nagarajan is a communications and editing consultant, specializing in scientific, technical, and educational content. She holds an MS degree (with thesis research) in Computer Science from North Carolina State University, USA, and a BE degree in Computer Engineering from Government College of Engineering, Pune, India. In continuing professional development, she has pursued and completed courses in science writing, professional editing, effective communication, and pedagogy. She copyedits research papers, grant proposals and instructional material in STEM, Business and Management, and interdisciplinary fields for researchers. She also facilitates training workshops on effective communication for early career researchers.
