India is a major editorial service provider for academic authors. And there has been an increasing trend towards becoming freelance copyediting professionals. In this background, it is important for copyeditors to understand that quality is a subjective concept and to be able to assess the level of editing required for a manuscript at the negotiation stage in order to derive a fair price for their service.
This session brings together two important components: (i) the four Cs of copyediting, namely, correctness, consistency, coherence and clarity and (ii) the three levels of editorial intervention, namely, standard, intermediate and substantial. By mapping the four Cs and the three levels, this session helps copyeditors assess a manuscript and estimate their efforts for a new project.
