Mabel Chew gained her medical degree at The University of Sydney, Australia, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Before joining The Lancet as Senior Editor, she was Practice Editor at The BMJ for 10 years, following 8 years as Deputy Editor at the Medical Journal of Australia. She has been invited to present talks on medical publishing and publication ethics such as competing interests, including for the European Cardiology Section Foundation, Johns Hopkins University, NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence and the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. She has been a part time primary care physician in Sydney, Australia since 1995 and a Lecturer in the Department of General Practice, The University of Sydney.
