EASE Webinar: How to write and publish an impactful manuscript: insights from an author, reviewer, and editor

In the webinar, Dr. Oksana Coban, Senior Scientific Editor at Elsevier, provided valuable insights into the process of writing and publishing scientific manuscripts. She covered such topics as choosing the most suitable journal, understanding editorial outcomes and peer-review process, and dealing with rejection. Dr. Coban also shared her tips on the use of GenAI in scientific publishing, the article transfer service, and why it is important to review scientific manuscripts. The session was moderated by EASE President, Dr Bahar Mehmani.

I am a passionate environmental scientist with expertise in microbial ecology, astrobiology, soil sciences, and biogeochemistry. Currently I am working as a Senior Scientific Editor at Environmental and Agricultural journals at Elsevier. Recently I have also served as an interim editor for Trends in Microbiology at Cell Press. My research interests extend from water (bio)remediation and elemental cycles to life origin and evolution. I won two prestigious fellowships that are NASA Postdoctoral Fellowship and EU Marie-Curie ITN as well as I received NASA Exobiology grant 2017 as a Co-I. I took part in organizing conferences, was serving as a panel reviewer for NASA funding programs, and I am an invited peer reviewer for more than twenty scientific journals. My international experience includes working as a part of EU project that comprised five European countries, working and living in three countries on two continents within the last seven years, and I also speak six languages.
