Meeting of EASE Ukraine, 1 July 2025
Tuesday, 1 July 2025 3 pm Kyiv, Ukraine
On 1 July 2025, our regional chapter held a meeting to reflect on recent activities, share updates, and discuss ongoing and future initiatives. The discussion covered the following key points:
🔹 EASE Annual Conference in Oslo
We exchanged impressions and main takeaways from the EASE Annual Conference in Oslo. It was an inspiring and rewarding experience for our members. We were especially proud to highlight our chapter’s success in winning the poster competition! Special thanks go to Taras Kotyk, our chapter member, and Prof. Izarova for their significant contributions.
🔹 Welcoming New Members
We were delighted to welcome several new members from Ferenc Rákóczi II Transcarpathian Hungarian College of Higher Education to our chapter. New members introduced the themselfs and provided a brief overview of their ongoing editorial and publishing activities.
🔹 Addressing Predatory Practices
Our member Yulia Hartman presented key outcomes from the recently held workshop “Paper Mills: Why Higher Education Institutions Should Avoid Collaboration with Questionable Partners?”– organized with the support of our chapter in collaboration with DOAJ, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, EIFL, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and the State Scientific and Technical Library of Ukraine.
🔹 Translation of EASE Materials
We reviewed the current progress in translating EASE resources into Ukrainian, including “Writing Your Research Paper” and “Recommendations on the Use of AI in Scholarly Communication.” Members were also invited to contribute to the translation of the Peer Review Toolkit.
🔹 Membership Fees and Funding
An open discussion was held on membership fees and potential funding opportunities. Participants expressed gratitude for the chapter’s activities and EASE support and showed readiness to contribute financially. Various flexible models and discount options were proposed to ensure inclusivity and sustainability.
We briefly addressed proposed amendments to the Procedure for the Formation of the List of Scholarly Journals in Ukraine and underlined the importance of maintaining high ethical standards in communication between academic staff, PhD candidates, and the broader scholarly community.
We sincerely thank all participants for their active involvement and thoughtful contributions. We look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts and shared mission in strengthening scholarly communication.
