Koen Jonkers was recently appointed as head of the scientific development unit of the EU Commission’s Joint Research Centre. The past four years he was the JRCs Editor in Chief. He has a background in biotechnology (MSc Wageningen University), holds a PhD in Political Science from the European University Institute and is a visiting professor at the Economics department of the College of Europe. As Editor in Chief he was, together with a team of 18 editors and 440 reviewers, responsible for controlling the quality of the JRC’s 1600 annual publications across many fields of research and policy. His own main field of specialisation is the dynamics of science, the scientific communication system and the interaction between science and policy.
