Prof. Nikica Mihaljević, PhD, has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split since 2015. She graduated with MA in English language and literature and Italian language and literature (in Zadar, Croatia), has a MS degree in literature (in Zagreb, Croatia) and PhD in comparative literature (in Macerata, Italy). She is Associate Professor at the Department of Italian Language and Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split. As the Editor-in-Chief of one of the main journals in Croatia in the area of the humanities (classified in Croatia as a1 journal) and as the member of the Editorial Board of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and of the Commission for Publishing Activites of the University of Split, she has participated actively in many events (webinars, conferences, etc.) in publishing science. At the moment, together with other colleagues from the Croatian National Association of Croatian Editors (ZNAK), she has been working on the handbook on publishing science for publishers and editors.

Prof. Mihaljević has published seven books, five in Italian language, one in English and one in Croatian language: Dvojnik i njegova želja: Arturo Graf i Luigi Pirandello, Split, Redak, 2010; La luna nell’acqua. She is the author of more than forty scientific articles, published in English, Italian, and Croatian, in the international and domestic scientific journals. She has participated at more than fifty international conferences, in Croatia and in other European countries.  In September 2021 she was the president of the Organizing and Scientific Committee for the conference entitled From Dante to the present day: disease outbrakes, epidemics and pandemics in language, literature and culture, held at the University of Split, Croatia.

Since 2008 prof. Mihaljević has been teaching various courses (BA level, MA level, PhD level) at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, as well as at the International Summer School of University of Split.

Prof. Mihaljević has held lectures at various universities in Europe and was the visiting professor at the University of Macerata, Italy, in 2017/2018. Her major research interests include the 19th and 20th centuries as well as contemporary Italian literature, women’s writing, migration literature, ecocriticism, and comparative literature studies. Since 2016 she has been the member of the Editorial Board of the literary journal Mogućnosti.

Prof. Mihaljević is the member of the following professional associations:

Associazione Internazionale dei Professori d’Italiano (A.I.P.I.), Associazione Internazionale per gli Studi di Lingua e Letteratura Italiana (AISLLI), AATI (American Association of Teachers of Italian), Association for Literary Urban Studies, Hrvatsko filološko društvo (HFD), Hrvatska udruga za znanstvenu komunikaciju (Croatian National Association Editor – ZNAK), European Association of Science of Editors (EASE).

She is also the member of the Italian cultural association Dante Alighieri – Spalato as well as of the Italian cultural association Italia Nostra.

Prof. Mihaljević is the member and coordinator for the University of Split at The European Consortium of Humanities Institutes and Centres.

Prof. Mihaljević is the member and coordinatior for Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split at DARIAH-HR (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and the Humanities, Croatia).

She is also the member of DARIAH-EU (Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities, Europe) and is a member of the DARIAH Working Group “Women Writers in History”. With DARIAH Working Group “Women Writers in History” she has participated in the international project (together with colleagues from Holland, Finland, Norway, Italy, France, Slovenia, Spain, Portugal, Serbia) NEWW Virtual Research Environment: NEWW Women Writer  (project leader: Suzan Van Dijk, Huygens Institute (The Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands) Amsterdam, Holland.

Prof. Mihaljević collaborated on the international scientific project Dalmacija od pada Serenissime do nacionalnog buđenja (project leader: prof. emeritus Ljerka Šimunković) (2004 – 2006).

She has collaborated on the worldwide project of the compilation of an online encyclopedia The Encyclopedia of the Medieval Chronicle 2016 edition (project leaders: Graeme Dunphy & Cristian Bratu), Koninklijke Brill NV, Leiden, The Netherlands:   (http://referenceworks.brillonline.com/). (2013-2016).

Prof. Mihaljević has written numerous article reviews for various Croatian and foreign journals as well for a few (Croatian and foreign) scientific monographs.

She has been collaborating with the Croatian Science Foundation (Hrvatska naklada za znanost) as a member of the panels for the evaluation of project applications and as a project proposal reviewer. She has also been collaborating for a few years with the Croatian Ministry of Science on the evaluation of textbooks for primary and secondary schools in Croatia.
