B – National vs international journals

Lakhotia SC. “National” versus “international” journals. Current Science 2013;105(3):287-288

According to the author, the existing Indian classification into “national” and “international” journals is misleading as it presupposes that the former group of journals publishes articles only from authors in India, and that those articles are not so good as those published in “international” journals. This discourages scientists to submitt their best manuscripts to Indian journals. The scientific community in India should ensure that any assessment need not distinguish between “national” and “international” journals and that selection committees for academic jobs or promotions begin to appreciate the nature of science rather than the journal impact factor.
