I led the local organising team and was part of the Scientific Programme Committee for the 17th EASE General Assembly and Conference which took place in Istanbul, Turkey from 1-3 June 2023.
We brought together a team of expert speakers from across the globe for our second hybrid conference. Delegates, speakers, hosts and sponsors were able to network in an informal atmosphere, ask questions during the sessions, and meet our speakers in our GatherTown platform. In-person delegates and those joining online enjoyed the same simultaneous programme.

I initiated the project to create an Editorial School for Journal Editors, to support editors to develop their journals, improve their workflows, policies, systems, visibility and impact. The course was developed for EASE by Pippa Smart, PSP Consulting and runs over four consecutive weeks, with a lecture and breakout groups to discuss case studies in each module.
The course was piloted with four EASE Regional Chapters, Croatia, Romania, Turkey and Ukraine in 2022. Since then, the course has been run several times, with over 400 delegates participating. The course material has been translated into Turkish, Ukrainian and Portuguese. Delegates have the opportunity to take a short quiz to test their knowledge at the end of the course. The next course runs in October 2024, register your interest.
Our diamond open access peer-reviewed journal publishes original research, review and commentary on all aspects of scientific, scholarly editing and publishing. We aim to provide a source of peer-reviewed information on all aspects of scholarly editing to help editors improve the quality and integrity of scholarly publications. Articles are published in flow and we do not charge APC’s.
The Journal is indexed in Scopus, DOAJ, SJR Scimago amongst others. An application to Web of Science is currently being assessed.
Topics included within our scope include research integrity, peer review, scientometrics, open science, predatory publishing, statistics, writing, translation and ethics. Please visit our website and sign up for e-mail alerts to be notified when new articles are published.
I am a member of the International Editorial Advisory Board.
I have served on EASE Council since 2018, as Vice President for 2021-2023 and now as President for 2023-25. I initiated and chaired the EASE Turkish Regional Chapter until February 2022, then chaired the Regional Chapter Programme Committee until I took up my duties as President. I am a member of the International Editorial Advisory Board of European Science Editing.
I was elected as a member of the Journal Selection Committee of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) Turkish Academic Network and Information Center (ULAKBIM) TR Index in 2018. I was the previous Editor in Chief (2012-2016), Co-Editor (2004-2008) and the Editor at Large of the Balkan Medical Journal (2016-2018), which is the only journal from medical schools in Turkey indexed in SCIE and Medline. I have organized more than 20 webinars, workshops, symposiums and conferences on scientific writing, editing, reviewing, journal management and publication ethics. Beside EASE, I am a member of COPE and the World Association of Medical Editors.
