EASE Summer Symposium 2026 – Session 3

Methods for Setting and Upholding Editorial Standards

Wednesday, 3 June 2026, 10am-11.30am

This practical session focuses on how journals can systematically set, maintain, and communicate editorial standards. Examples include threshold-setting for methodological rigor, reviewer and editor training programmes, background research on publishing norms, and use of established standard-setting frameworks such as the outputs of organizations like the EQUATOR Network, COPE and EASE. Panelists will discuss how to ensure that authors, reviewers, and editors understand and adhere to expectations, and how transparency and continuous improvement contribute to elevating journal quality. Participants will gain strategies for fostering consistency across their editorial team and hear about successes and failures of trying new strategies to enforce standards. Finally, the session will examine the potential for AI to analyze data as well as provide highly segmented data to fuel micro-targeted engagement campaigns aimed at unique individual experiences.
