ALPSP Course – How Journals Work

The course will be delivered in two sessions on Tuesday 25 April and Wednesday 26 April:

09:00-12:00 (EDT), 14:00-17:00 (BST), 15:00-18:00 (CEST) with 15 mins of networking before the start of the second session.

Evolved from ALPSP’s well-regarded introductory workshops, this comprehensive online course, held over two half-days, is designed to answer many questions for those starting their careers in academic journal publishing. Delegates will have interactive time with the tutors and each other during the sessions as well as pre-course reading to help them prepare for the discussions. It will provide delegates with an understanding of Open Access, what makes a successful journal, finance and business models, as well as the basics of marketing and product development.

The workshop provides an introduction to context, job roles, and the publication stages in scholarly publishing and also covers the fundamental nature of academic research. It is relevant to all those new to journals publishing or who have been out of this area for several years and are seeking a refresher.
