Dr Jane Alfred is a professional editor and trainer, with a research background in genetics and developmental biology. She is the Director and co-founder of Catalyst Editorial Ltd.

During her publishing career, Jane was the Editor of Trends in Genetics, Chief Editor of Nature Reviews Genetics, Executive Editor of Development and co-creator of the Node, a community website for developmental biologists, and Deputy Editor of PLOS Biology, where she launched the blog PLOS Biologue.

As a freelance editor and training consultant, Jane now works closely with the life sciences publishing and research communities, and is an advocate for research integrity, ethical editorial practice, responsible research, inclusive peer review, and for better working environments for researchers that support, recognise and reward good research practice and that actively promote healthy research cultures.

Jane advocates for these issues through the training and consultancy works she undertakes for universities, research institutes and publishers, and through her work as an advisory council member of the UK Research Integrity Office, and as an Associate Member of COPEJane also provides training, mentoring and support to editors and editorial teams, working directly with a range of STEM publishers and in partnership with the ALPSP.
