EASE Webinar: Competing interests in health and medical journal publishing

Mabel Chew, Senior Editor at The Lancet unpacked the details of competing interests and discussed evidence on COIs in relation to health and medical journals.

The session defined what competing interests are, and why they matter in relation to research, opinion, review and education articles with references to research conducted to examine the prevalence and implications of work is influenced in unethical ways. The session also covered reader perceptions of COI declarations in research papers, and asked what can be done to address problems, with reference to Lancet policies.
