Generative Artificial Intelligence as a Plagiarism Problem

Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) and transformer-based large language models such as Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) have the potential to transform healthcare education, research and scientific publishing.

This editorial addresses the potential impact of such programs on the journal Biological Psychology. Using chatGPT as an example, it makes the case that a prime concern is its implications for facilitating plagiarism. It concludes that it is essential that authors are transparent about AI usage, declaring when and how AI is used (as source of ideas, as a tool for searching literature or as a support for writing the paper).
