Shirin Heidari

Shirin is Executive Editor of the Journal of the International AIDS Society. She also oversees the International AIDS Society programmes that promote HIV research and training in resource-limited settings. Under her leadership, the Journal of the International AIDS Society has grown substantially and has undergone a number of changes. She introduced a gender editorial policy which strongly encourages gender analysis in submitting manuscripts, and she has expanded the Journal’s efforts to strengthen scientific writing through an increased number of workshops and the development of online tools.

Before joining the International AIDS Society, Shirin was a researcher at the Centre of Excellence for Infectious Medicine at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm. In parallel, she served as Editor-in-Chief of an HIV newsletter at the Noah’s Ark Foundation in Stockholm, and was an editorial board member of a Scandinavian HIV journal. She also served as a trusted board member of Amnesty International in Sweden for four years, and as an appointed member of the International Committee on Strengthening Democracy.

Shirin received her Doctorate degree in Clinical Virology at the Karolinska Institute and completed her post-doctoral training with The European Vaccine Effort against HIV/AIDS. She has over 10 years of experience in research and she is the author of a number of articles.
