DEI Awareness Raising Slide Deck
The EASE DEI Committee’s Awareness Raising Slide Deck, is a practical tool to help journal editors and professionals in scholarly publishing communicate the importance of DEI to their stakeholders and by promoting DEI across their networks.
It is a free resource designed for the scholarly publishing community. It offers a structured framework for initiating DEI conversations and guiding reflection within editorial teams, publishing organisations and journals. It can be used and adapted by journal editors, editorial board members and staff to communicate the importance of DEI to their stakeholders.
The Slide Deck includes:
A definition of DEI
The benefits of DEI in organisations
Questions to evaluate the current status of DEI in an organisation
Steps to implement DEI
Useful links
The development of the DEI Awareness Raising slide deck represents an important first step in equipping the scholarly publishing community with practical resources to increase awareness of DEI and support meaningful DEI conversations. Future ambitions include gathering community feedback on the value of the Slide Deck, integrating it into training sessions, and updating its content regularly to ensure relevance and continued impact.

18th EASE Conference Session 11: How can you contribute to your journal’s sustainability
In this session, the EASE Environment & Sustainability (E&S) and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committees will give brief highlights and outcomes from Survey on the Impact of the SDG Publishers Compact/EASE Manifesto, and the EDI Survey. Both studies revealed the need for more support for small publishers/individual journals, and for tracking/reporting progress when implementing SDG and EDI policies in their journals.
We will introduce our SDG Checklist, a resource of ideas for actions to take, and a baselining/reporting tool, and will hear from two Editors on using the tool to support their progress.
We will discuss the EDI Survey on Editors’ perceptions and opinions about EDI policies and practices in their journals and organisations. The results uncovered specific needs that are guiding the EDI Committee’s actions to promote the implementation of EDI policies in journals.

ALLEA – GYA – STM joint Webinar – IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility) in scholarly peer-review
In this upcoming joint webinar, we will explore issues related to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility in the scholarly peer review system. The peer review system currently does not accurately represent the research community as a whole: women, researchers from the Global South and less-established institutions, early career researchers, and non-native English speakers are all among those under-represented. In addition, researchers not affiliated with established high-status institutions often experience a disadvantage when their work is submitted for peer review. Together, these biases directly affect individuals’ career progression and are likely to impact the quality of research outputs and the diversification of the research system in general.
