Instructions for authors vary widely among journals, yet, at least in theory, they are all supposed to do the same thing: help authors prepare manuscripts that meet the needs of the author, the journal, and the scientific community. Each of these three stakeholders depends on the other two for its existence. However, the only formal relationship is that between journals and authors, which is defined by the journal’s instructions for authors. In this presentation, we will look at the instructions from the author’s perspective and consider how to make the manuscript preparation, submittal, and publication processes easier to complete.
