Standing for re-election as Treasurer and Company Secretary

Research Integrity Manager, UKRIO, UK
[email protected]

I am pleased to accept the invitation of the nomination committee to continue as Treasurer, the role I took on in 2021. It was wonderful to be able to return to a hybrid conference in Valencia in 2022 and break even financially over the year. The support of the Finance Committee, and especially Mary, has been invaluable during a year complicated by the ongoing pandemic and the invasion of Ukraine.

Career summary

Since May 2022, I am a Research Integrity Manager at the UK Research Integrity Office (UKRIO), based in Croydon, south London. I support the work of the charity to foster good research practice among researchers and institutions with publishing guidance, offering training, and running a free enquiry service, and I manage the social media. I also volunteer as co-chair of the membership subcommittee on the council of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Previously, I worked for 18 years in editorial roles at open access scientific journal publishers. I was Head of Editorial Policy and Ethics at Hindawi in London, where I reviewed editorial policies, proposed projects and policies to ensure robust peer review, and resolved complex editorial and ethical issues. Before that, I was Head of Research Integrity at Hindawi, responsible for management of publication ethics policies and processes, including retractions, corrections, and contacting institutions, and managing the Research Integrity team. I trained as a biologist at Oxford (BA (Hons)) and then Cambridge (MSc), before starting my editing career at BioMed Central (BMC) and moving to the Public Library of Science (PLOS), where I became a Senior Editor at PLOS ONE. I have presented at several international publishing conferences, including EASE in Strasbourg and Valencia, the World Conference on Research Integrity (WCRI), COPE, ISMPP, and ISMTE.
