Session 11

How can you contribute to your journal’s sustainability

Friday, 16 May 2025, 2.15pm-3.15pm

In this session, the EASE Environment & Sustainability (E&S) and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committees gave brief highlights and outcomes from the Survey on the Impact of the SDG Publishers Compact/EASE Manifesto, and the EDI Survey. Both studies revealed the need for more support for small publishers/individual journals, and for tracking/reporting progress when implementing SDG and EDI policies in their journals.

We introduced our SDG Checklist, a resource of ideas for actions to take, and a baselining/reporting tool, and heard from two Editors on using the tool to support their progress.

We discussed the EDI Survey on Editors’ perceptions and opinions about EDI policies and practices in their journals and organisations. The results uncovered specific needs that are guiding the EDI Committee’s actions to promote the implementation of EDI policies in journals.

The EASE-EDI Committee is also active in endorsing important guidelines, as was the case with the SAGER Guidelines. This session presented the recently published Guidelines for Reporting Intersectional analysis in Science and Technology (GRIST), another important tool to help Editors in their sustainability challenges.
