Identifying Papermill Submissions and Image Manipulation

This talk will briefly provide background on the journal Bioscience Reports and its recent experiences will papermills and image manipulation. The processes and checks introduced as part of the initial screening stage for papers submitted to Bioscience Reports will also be discussed, as well as some of the commonly identified features and patterns associated with suspected papermill articles in the journal. Examples of identified image duplications and manipulation will also be shared, as well as some of the techniques that can be applied to aid their detection.
