Chapter Founders

The Ukrainian Regional Chapter of the European Association of Science Editors (EASE Ukraine) was founded in 2021 by two leading scholars and advocates of editorial excellence, Prof. Dr. Iryna Izarova and Prof. Dr. Maryna Zhenchenko. Their shared vision and sustained efforts have played a pivotal role in shaping a vibrant and impactful professional community for Ukrainian editors.

Together, their leadership and dedication have transformed EASE Ukraine into a meaningful and dynamic platform that supports capacity building, knowledge exchange, and the promotion of high-quality, ethical scholarly publishing. Their work has not only enhanced the visibility and credibility of Ukrainian journals but also fostered a strong, collaborative community of editors committed to advancing research integrity and editorial professionalism in Ukraine and beyond.

Prof. Dr. Iryna Izarova

Full Professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Editor-in-Chief of Access to Justice in Eastern Europe

Prof. Dr. Iryna Izarova, Full Professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and Editor-in-Chief of Access to Justice in Eastern Europe, has been a driving force behind advancing editorial standards and ethical publishing practices in Ukraine. As Chair of EASE Ukraine (2021–2026), she actively contributed to national policy development through expert working groups under the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, addressing key issues such as state support for academic journals, open peer review, and the establishment of a national journal ranking system. Her leadership has significantly strengthened the institutional capacity and international integration of Ukrainian scholarly publishing. Since 2026, she has further extended her impact as a member of the COPE Council.

Prof. Dr. Maryna Zhenchenko

Doctor of Science in Social Communications, Full Professor and Director of the Maksymovych Scientific Library at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv

Prof. Dr. Maryna Zhenchenko, Doctor of Science in Social Communications, Full Professor and Director of the Maksymovych Scientific Library at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, brought extensive expertise in publishing, editing, and digital media to the foundation and development of EASE Ukraine. As Vice Chair of the Chapter (2021–2026), she played a crucial role in building professional networks, promoting best practices in science editing, and fostering collaboration among editors, publishers, and academics. Her engagement with national professional associations has contributed to raising awareness of editorial standards and strengthening the professional identity of editors in Ukraine. Prof. Zhenchenko also serves as Vice Chair of the Ukrainian Editors’ Association, contributing significantly to the development of editorial standards, strengthening professional networks, and advancing best practices in scholarly publishing across Ukraine.
